Cryogenesis - The Dry Ice Blasting Process

View videos showing the dry ice cleaning process in action.

Kinetic Energy (KE=1/2mv ² ): Energy associated with the mass and velocity (supersonic is standard) transfers to the surface being cleaned/coating being removed. This is the primary mode of cleaning, both here and in sand/water/corncob/shot blasting, however, unlike these other methods, the Cryogenesis ® story doesn't end here.

Thermal Differentials: When the cold dry ice pellets impact with the surface, a small thermal differential is established between the surface coating material/contaminent and the substrate. This promotes cracking and de-lamination thus facilitating the removal process.

Reverse Fracturing: As the dry ice impacts the surface being cleaned and explodes into a harmless CO2 gas, it tends to invade cracks and pores to get under the coating/contaminent. Then as it warms it rapidly expands and pushes the coating/contaminent from the substrate, further assisting in the coating removal or cleaning process.

A CHEAPER CLEAN

Cryogenesis ®'s expandable dry ice pellets cost between 15 and 30 cents a pound and the system uses between 100 to 150 lbs/hr. More is expended for tough paint stripping jobs, less for oil film and clinging dirt removal. The dry ice cleaning medium is chemically neutral, electrically non-conductive and totally non-abrasive. There are absolutely no secondary wastes (nothing added), and the material being removed generally becomes light dry dust that can be easily vacuumed and captured in filters even while the job is in process. Therefore, there is little additional clean up after the blasting job is completed. There is rarely any need for a sand blasting booth either; therefore some cleaning jobs can be accomplished with equipment still in operation -- without disturbing plant productivity.

Since there is nothing added to the waste stream, nothing at all, the costs and the potential liabilities of waste disposal are significantly reduced; and in many applications completely eliminated. Both job and long term costs then are significantly lower than conventional methods.

A FASTER CLEAN

Cryogenesis ® cleans at sand blasting rates, in most cases. Since there is rarely any need for disassembly/reassembly and no need for further cleanup after the process is completed, the required equipment down time is very short. Due to the nature of the cleaning process (at the end of a long skinny wand), it is easy to rapidly access, and thoroughly clean hard-to-reach places where human hands cannot, or should not go.

A SAFER CLEAN

Cryogenesis ® is a non-destructive and naturally safe (to both humans and objects being cleaned) cleaning/coating removal. It uses chemically inert/neutral, electrically non-conductive dry ice pellets (called Drice). Drice have no sharp edges to cut the skin or change/degrade substrates and can be pharmaceutical grade clear & pure. No chemicals, no abrasives, no electrical energy, no sparks, no heat, no high pressure fluids, no secondary waste streams; all contribute to a greatly reduced risk to the equipment being cleaned, to the personnel doing the cleaning and to our environment.
